What is a Respirator Medical Evaluation?
The Respirator Medical Clearance is a questionnaire and set of tests used to identify general medical conditions that could put a worker at risk of serious medical consequences.
Is a pulmonary function test required for respirator use?
A pulmonary function test is only required if the doctor scoring the medical clearance questionnaire feels it is needed. That determination will be based on factors determined by the questionnaire.
What is required before using a respirator at work?
Before using a respirator at work, you will be required to get Respiratory Protection Training, Medical Clearance (Medical Evaluation), and Fit Testing.
How often do you need Medical Clearances, Fit Testing, and Training?
Employees must complete a Medical Clearance, Respirator Training, and Fit Testing at least annually. If you change/switch respirators (type, size, or brand) or make modifications to your Written Plan, it must be reviewed by the employee. This also requires a new fit test and medical clearance. Training must be done annually.
Who needs a Respirator Medical Clearance?
Anyone using a respirator on the job site is required to receive Respirator Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing.
How long does it take to get a Respirator Medical Clearance?
95% of Medical clearances are completed within 10 minutes. If an Evaluation is required, it may take a little longer as you will need to speak with a Medical Professional. Our service provides access to a credentialed, trained physician in these instances and, both English and Spanish languages are accommodated.
Can a person with asthma wear a respirator?
Depending on the severity, an employee with asthma or other lung problems may not be able to wear a respirator for work. If you feel your employee can, after completing the online clearance, an evaluation will be conducted. There is no additional charge when using our service to have an evaluation with a medical professional however, additional testing may be required at the employer's expense.
