Combustible dust is produced during many work processes, including sanding, crushing, mixing, grinding, polishing, sifting, and even moving or shaking materials. Many materials, including metals, coal, plastics, wood, grain and sugar are combustible in dust form. The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board identified 281 combustible dust incidents between 1980 and 2005.
Since combustible dust is produced during so many work processes, it is important for workers to understand how to minimize combustible dust to prevent explosions and protect themselves.
Learners who successfully complete this course should be able to recognize hazards of combustible dust and identify safe practices for working around combustible dust. This training is designed for workers in industries that may be exposed to combustible dust particles.
