40-Hour 100% Online HAZWOPER (Non-IDLH Job Roles):
Course Overview:
Many of our clients request HAZWOPER training for employees who are not involved in hazardous waste/materials clean-up. If you or your company need HAZWOPER training, even though assigned job duties do not put the employee at risk for exposure to IDHL (Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health) environments, we invite you to read on:
This is an up-to-date, carefully modified, 100% online version of the 40-Hour HAZWOPER course we've offered since 1999. The training allows you to stop and restart at your convenience and contains 35 comprehensive modules you can complete anywhere that internet access and a computer are available.
Who Should Take A "Fully-Online" HAZWOPER Course?
Employees with a "Non-IDLH" job classification, employees without any risk of exposure to IDLH environments, workers who do not participate in clean-up of hazardous waste/materials, administrative personnel are some examples of target job classifications. This may include workers such as:
- Personnel needing HAZWOPER training to meet Insurance or Risk Management requirements AND
- Non-IDLH classified employees providing work under a contract with HAZWOPER training requirements AND employers with a company policy for HAZWOPER training… who are never at-risk for exposure to IDLH environments.
- Sales, Engineers, Administrative employees and other "white collar" job descriptions who are not at risk for IDLH environments
IMPORTANT: ANY risk of IDLH exposure, no matter how infrequent, requires FULL HAZWOPER Certification. To obtain this level of certification, the training MUST INCLUDE hands-on training by a qualified Instructor. It's your life and safety at issue. Always consult EH&S Management prior to enrolling in any online HAZWOPER course!
Can Employers Meet Hands-On Training Requirements Later On?
OSHA is clear in their interpretation that HAZWOPER Certification must include in-person, hands-on training during initial HAZWOPER training and Employers CANNOT meet these requirements as part of the 3-day onsite training employers are required to provide.

⚠️ Critical Compliance Note: "Certified VS. "Trained"
Receiving a "Certificate of Completion" does not mean you've been "HAZWOPER Certified". OSHA is
- Regulatory Requirements: Being HAZWOPER certified to clean up hazardous waste or being exposed to an IDLH environment requires additional Instructor-led, hands-on training. "Online-only" courses cannot substitute for this critical hands-on component that is mandated by OSHA and EPA for full certification.
- Employer responsibility: OSHA places the responsibility for providing proper, job-specific training (including hands-on if required) on the employer. This is due to the Employer having the most knowledge of Employee hazards and exposure.
- Before enrolling, always confirm with your EH&S Manager that a "100% online” 40-Hour HAZWOPER course (without hands-on training) is acceptable for your specific role.
Requirements for Completion:
- Course Structure: 35 self-paced online training modules.
- Assessment: Pass a final online exam with 70% or better.
