Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness - Online Training

Product Description
$149.95
Maximum quantity available reached.

Hydrogen Sulfide is one of the leading causes of workplace inhalation deaths in The United States!

Our training course meets training requirements under OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910. 119, OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200 and ANSI/ASSE Z390.1-2010, and is compliant with OSHA and The American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

H2S Training

Due to the large number of documented fatalities among workers and rescuers, along with ANSI, we have identified a clear need for specialized training to address the occupational hazards from Hydrogen Sulfide.

Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) Complete® is an awareness-level (4-Hour) online certification course. We also offer two 'Industry-specific' versions; Hydrogen Sulfide for Agriculture Personnel and Hydrogen Sulfide for Oil & Gas Personnel.

Our Hydrogen Sulfide Awareness Training was developed to provide students a comprehensive overview of hydrogen sulfide safety and its effects in the workplace. Increasing your awareness of the occurrence of natural and industrial hydrogen sulfide hazards will better equip you to deal with H2S hazards in the workplace.

Our online course features narrations, module quizzes, multiple student interactions, advanced bookmarking, streaming audio, live instructor chat, and a course glossary that are jam-packed with information to help employees protect themselves from the hazards of Hydrogen Sulfide exposure.

Once registered, students have a full 90-days to complete the online curricula (extensions are available, just call prior to expiration); this gives students the added benefit of training at their leisure with no specific start and stop times.

Free Hydrogen Sulfide Comply Check!
As a bonus, after registration, you will receive a downloadable copy of Comply-Check: Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) at no charge. Comply-Check is a learning and job aid for the real-world. It features key topics, important facts on H2S, action-items, and course terms explanations.

HYDROGEN SULFIDE SAFETY AWARENESS CERTIFICATION: Upon completion, you will receive a Completion Certificate suitable for framing (not a black & white “downloaded copy”) and a wallet ID card for verification at worksites that require Awareness-level ANSI certification.

The training also provides certification under OSHA 29 CFR 1910.1200 – Hazard Communications. This comprehensive course covers BOTH standards.

RE-TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Per ANSI/ASSE Z390.1-2010, Section 6.2: “Due to the extreme hazards involved in H2S operations, each individual covered by this standard should be trained annually.”

TECHNOLOGY NOTE: This online course is best suited for students with newer computers AND reliably fast internet connection speeds (cable, DSL, or T-1 speed or better). The use of wireless cards for training is not recommended. Please click on System Requirements below for details.

H2S

Hydrogen Sulfide or H2S is a colorless gas known for its rotten egg smell. It is also extremely flammable and toxic to people. Exposure to H2S gas can cause headaches, eye irritation, unconsciousness, and even death! Hydrogen sulfide occurs naturally and can also be human-made, and exposure to this hazard has a very high mortality rate.

A higher risk of exposure to hydrogen sulfide exists in many major industries, including:

  • Oil and Gas Processing & Refining
  • Mining
  • Rayon manufacturing
  • Agriculture
  • Manufacturing
  • Oil and Gas Exploration
  • Tanning
  • Pulp and Paper Processing
  • General Industry

Workers at a higher risk of exposure to hydrogen sulfide include:

Oil and natural gas workers who extract or refine crude oil and natural gas
Wastewater and sanitation workers who clean or maintain sewers or septic tanks
Farmworkers who clean manure storage tanks or work in manure pits. Hydrogen sulfide gas also occurs naturally in manure, sewers, well water, oil & gas wells, and volcanoes.

Who needs Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness Training?

Any employees exposed to or potentially exposed to hydrogen sulfide while on the job or anyone who works with or around H2S gas will need this training course!

If you aren’t sure if you need Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness Training or any other course we offer, please start a chat above with the chat button or call us for more information or with any other questions you may have! Call us at 1-800-711-2706

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is H2S Training?

Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness Training teaches the students how to work safely when exposure to hydrogen sulfide gas is possible, proper PPE to wear while working, and what to do in case of exposure.

Does Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness Training expire?

There is no set standard for Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness Refresher Training the only time you would have to update the training is if regulations and techniques significantly change.

Who needs Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness Training?

Anyone who has the potential to be exposed to hydrogen sulfide at work needs this training. Common industries include agriculture, oil, gas, manufacturing, farmers, and wastewater & sanitation.

How does hydrogen sulfide (H2S) affect the body?

Hydrogen Sulfide or H2S gas irritates the mucous membranes and respiratory tract, causing headaches, nausea, convulsions, skin/eye irritation, and even death.

Is hydrogen sulfide (H2S) harmful to humans?

Hydrogen Sulfide or H2S is very harmful to humans; it can cause headaches, nausea, convulsions, skin/eye irritation, and even death!

What does H2S mean?

H2S is the abbreviated version of hydrogen sulfide, a hazardous gas common in the oil, gas, and agriculture industries.

How long is a Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness class?

The Hydrogen Sulfide Safety Awareness class has a minimum of four hours of class time to complete.

What is Hydrogen Sulfide?

H2S or hydrogen sulfide is a colorless, flammable, poisonous, and corrosive gas commonly found in the drilling/production of crude oil/natural gas, wastewater treatment, and sewers. It can be identified as having a rotten egg smell.

What level of H2S is dangerous?

H2S levels of 100 parts per million (PPM) are immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH).

How is hydrogen Sulfide produced?

Hydrogen sulfide is produced in several different ways, including the bacterial breakdown of organic matter, human/animal waste, and naturally. It can also occur in oil, gas, volcanic gasses, and hot springs.

What is the OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) for H2S?

OSHA recommends a threshold limit value (TLV) of 1 ppm for an 8-hour time-weighted average and a short-term exposure limit (STEL) of 5 ppm.
