Hands-on portion of the HAZWOPER training was great. Instructor made it fun by sharing stories. Dress out was quick and well organized to be efficient. Only thing that would have made it better is if the class would have been offered in the central valley, so I didn't have to drive 4 hours to get to the class.
The class was well organized, and the instructor was knowledgeable, thorough, and presented the information well. It would be nice to have a class roster to help build our network in the field.

I've taken the same 8 hour refresher course for... six years now. I always look forward to the day going by relatively fast with the relevant subject matter and the engaging tabletop exercises.
The training itself was great. Chris Candelaria was a fantastic instructor and did a great job of teaching the material and making it interesting. His years of experience brought a lot of narrative aspects to the training that enhanced it in ways that not many people are capable of doing. However, the hotel that was hosting the training was not prepared. We had to wait an hour on the first day while they got the room set up (and if Chris wasn't telling them what to do, it would have been longer). Also, when I first walked and asked the guy at the front desk about the training, he had no idea what I was talking about. That is not a great feeling when you are traveling for expensive training that cannot be made up, to feel like you're in the wrong place and missing something important. The building itself was not in great shape either. I would encourage you folks to consider changing the venue.
I expected a week of boring "safety training" and instead, got EXACTLY the opposite! Our Instructor was knowledgeable, funny and delivered the materials in a way each of us could relate to! By the time Friday came round, our group was more like a team (thanks to the Trainer) and I was kind of sad to see it end. Excellent job, I'll definitely be back!
Been a while, but I'll leave a quick summary from my memory. Class material- 5 stars. Instructor: 3 stars. Hence, four-star review. The biggest standout issues I remember are that his FIRST statement was a condescending rant about how cell phones need to be away because we can wait for a few minutes to check out social media. Understandable for pet peeves, but we are all adults in that room and emergencies happen. A more respectful "Please limit cell phone use, but I understand if something comes up" would be more appreciated.
Another thing I didn't like was that we were put into a group for a supposed group exercise. for which we got into a round-table format. Except the instructor just continued reading the powerpoint and asking questions to the group with no actual interaction between the students. So half of us (myself included) had to keep spinning around to see the front of the room. Group activities are fine, but we would have been better served just staying in our original positions and watching the powerpoint.
Dressing out was fun though
Paul Schultz was a wonderful teacher. He made the course fun and engaging by adding in personal experiences from his years of work and valuable experience. I am glad I was able to take this course in person because it helped me learn a lot and get the most out of it. I had a very positive experience overall!
It was delightful. It was very thorough & comprehensive. The time passed by quickly.
The course was good, and the instructor did a good job of presenting the material. The hotel where the conference was held wasn't very nice. I had overnight stays booked there, and it was far from desirable. I'd suggest picking a different location for the training next time.
Great instructor, gave good real life examples and kept us engaged. The review questions at the end of chapters were very helpful for exam prep an content mastery. Some slides in the presentation did not appear to be included in the printout. Overall fantastic job. Thank you!
Best training for 8 Hour annual refresher training.
I expected a painful 40 hours of class to check the box. What I got instead was very engaging and educational. The instructor went above and beyond the printed material and made things relevant. This company surprised me. Even the EPA sent one of their own to take this class. I understand why. If you need to take this class, I would highly recommend that you don't go anywhere else. I will absolutely come back next year for my recurrent training.
Enjoyed taking this class. Very informative and the instructor made it easy to follow along.
